“Before I could ever walk or talk, I had already been going to Lake Tahoe...It’s been a family tradition that has brought me to this wonderful natural treasure at least 1-2 times a year for as long as I can remember.
Over the years, I have seen the face of Tahoe gradually change. It has evolved from a small ski town favored by NorCal locals to a full-fledged resort that draws attention now from a much more international audience. Despite this fact, it still maintains its original old school charm and is definitely not overly modernized or extravagant by any means. I really like this. Maybe it’s just me, but there’s something nice about being able to walk into places as an adult that evoke the same exact feelings you felt when you walked in as a kid.
Even when new establishments arise in Tahoe, many of them somehow create that comfy feeling of a place that has been around for decades. On that note, my most recent snowboarding trip to Tahoe these past few days has lead me to find a new breakfast spot...Bear Beach Café. It sits right on Lake Tahoe Blvd adjacent to Inn By The Lake. When you walk in, you immediately feel whizzed back into time a couple decades...Not quite as far back as the 70’s Pulp Fiction diner...but at least back into the 80’s. Definitely fun for my personal sense of nostalgia.
To add to the experience, you get some of the best breakfast around in the Tahoe area. The breakfast options run on & on here. From standard breakfast fare (i.e., pancakes, waffles, french toast, omelettes, etc...) to more creative concoctions like their Bacon-Banana French Toast, everything your breakfast munchies desire can be found here. I personally tried out one of their omelettes. While I often feel somewhat hungry after an omelette at other spots, this was not the case here. They pack 4 large eggs into an omelette and load it up to the brim with ingredients. I had the Popeye's special (spinach, provolone, & portobellini mushrooms) and it was simply delish. Omelettes also come with a fresh baked muffin and a sky high pile of home potatoes. Even if your personal expertise on being a lumberjack doesn’t involve much more than sportin’ the occasional flannel shirt...the portions here will definitely help you feel like one.
Coupled with great waitstaff and an awesome view of the lake, Bear Beach Café is a keeper in my pre-boarding breakfast repertoire. Check it out!”
